Thing 23 Summary

In the beginning I felt overwhelmed:
As the weeks past I began to have some fun. There are a few things that I learned and this is a good thing for me. I learned to have more confidence that I too can get that video attached to my blog. I can have my favorite restaurant advertisement show up: I attempted this feat no less than 5 or 6 times before it actually would open. So I learned patience that day. I learned that my tool-box comes in handy when I need a friend/coworker to help.

I learned I have so much more to learn. But alas I have the "I CAN DO IT" attitude. And with time and patience I too will achieve the skills it takes to navigate the computer and all it's splendid abilities.

I'm not much on blogging, never kept a diary so writing about me, my life so others can read it, well it's not really my cup of tea.

Learning how to use Flickr now that was fun and useful. I can see how we can use it here at the library for posting patrons who participate in library functions " Together we read" or Friends of the library bake sale, The summer reading program would be a fun one to put on flickr , just throwing ideas out here.
Learning how to use the Meez was a blast but I was sort of put off by having to (buy) items to dress this character! really kinda weird to give money for something I cant touch and it's not helping anyone. I browsed through the free stuff of course and left the paying to those who have money to throw away.

Using the library mp3 player to download a book: well folks this was a new one for me. ( I don't have one or an ipod), and yes I had a tool-box helper to walk me through the sync-ing down part.. new words to add to my tool-box vocabulary.. I did download a book to the library mp3 player : I'll need more time to play with the mp3 player so I can familiarize myself with it. Just like my cell phone I'm still learning how it all works.

For me it takes numerous applications before I really feel comfortable with any new technology.

But I would like to say = Thank you for this opportunity! I did enjoy exploring new and different technology and for the mp3 player.

Thing 22 Netlibrary

This site has allot to offer as far as I could tell.

I browsed what was on file and since this was my first visit, I thought wow!

Students who want to learn a new language could download a language e-book and study, or a patron who is planning a trip to Mexico, France etc... Patrons who are signed up with NC Live can download books from this site this is a great plus for them.

I learned that you can't download an e-audio book to an ipod ! well there ya go, two devices which should be compatible aren't, go figure. Also if your done with listening to the book you have to wait until the time limit is up before you can get another book, seems strange that one cannot just delete the book and start with a new one. Maybe in the future this will change:

I borrowed the library's mp3 player and downloaded a book. I wanted to see for my self all the steps it takes to do this, and although I did it, I'm confident in knowing that with a little time and more practice I'll master this technique, and wont feel apprehensive when and if a patron asks me for help. But for now I'm still learning and the curve is a wicked one.

Thing 21 podcast

I looked up book review podcast and NPR was one I could relate with.
Google podcast has some real off the wall sites.

I added 3 new podcast to my account.

I enjoy looking at nature so any podcast that relates to nature: also I like Celtic music if the two go together that's just great.

Thing 18

Did it. I uploaded a file I had saved in my documents. Now published on the Internet with Google docs => http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dc8b6rw7_2gtjgc8gv

I also attached picture, just 'cause I could => http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dc8b6rw7_5cb8jwchj

How could this be helpful for library staff? This ability is useful to other staff members if they want to look at the document and edit it, or the document is being used for training purposes and many staff members can log on and view it.

Students and other patrons? If my document, or information that I had stored was needed for a training purpose for students , exp: entry level test practice test for students entering into 9th grade. Or a poll asking patrons to rate our services.

Presentations and programs? I think I answered this already.

Thing 19

I selected Craigslist.com from the 2.0 list.

What I liked about Craigslist was reading my friends Shawn's stories from his childhood growing up in Western Mass. Shawn's a very funny guy. I also liked that he was being critiqued by several publishing authors and this turned out to be beneficial for him.

This site has many accesses to other favorable resources and depending on what one is doing or looking for someone can steer you towards that goal. An example for this would be my friend was looking for bike parts to a bicycle he was restoring; He received several names and phone numbers of individuals who had parts for his bike and after his repairs were made he sold the bike on craigslits and made a profit.

( I heard the news one morning that an individual hired a hit man on craigslits, she was apprehended before the deed was done,. thus this website attracts all kinds "the good the bad and the very weird".)

This web site would defiantly not be favorable for use here in the library.. This site invites any and all to view: This site reminds me of a bar room bathroom where one can read any number of messages from nasty to poetic to numbers for any given situation. One is free to type whatever one feels like. So the faint of heart need not venture. If I'm looking for a good book or author or genealogy ; there way better web based avenues to choose from than this one.
