Thing 17

I got a little help from another team player with this one:
FRL Wiki wasn't really hard or diffucult Okay I did have to repeat, repeat and repeat a few steps this could possible be operator mis-handling.. I added my favorite resturant and tv show so look at what I did and leave a comment if you dare to share....

Thing 16 Wikis

From what I read it seems that this program is good for some things and not so good for others.

One good thing would be doing video meetings : This would drastically save on gas for a lot of folks.
Planning programs : setting up a program asking the patrons what they would like to see or have in their library, then there input is direct.

A not so good feature of wikis = is spam I really don't like spam I dont like it in a can, dont want fried dont want it coming up on the computer and this happens with wikis people who want to be nasty can and the clean up effort is constant.

Getting time to update this web cite would be a job . So libraries would have to have the man power to devote time to it.

As I read about all these new terms I get the feeling I am falling way behind in the times and I'm not so sure about all this new technology or if I'll ever really understand much of it. But I am willing to keep learning even if it's at a snails pace.

Thing 15

Web 2.0
The concept of getting your needs and wants from a computer instead of a physical book. No need to wait for the next best seller, no need to put a hold on it just sign onto your computer and download it. I guess this is where technology is headed and each library who has the most to offer their patrons will have the most updated of technology and when this technology upgrades as does all technology. I wonder how the libraries who are small and quaint such as we are will be able to budget both new technology and buy books.. Not all patrons have a computer so the need for books is still very much in demand. I believe both have a place in the future of libraries:

Thing 14

Google Book Search: I did it and it wasn't tedious. Since the object of Google Book Search is to inform you where to buy or borrow the book, not to have you actually read the book on line; I believe this site to be informative enough so one can find ones book of desire. I usually use Amazon, but now that I know about this site I shall use it as well.

You asked me to tell you what benefits does Google Book Search have for our libraries.!

It may be that Google Book Search has more to offer than say Amazon.com, or maybe a bigger selection in a certain subject !! not really sure since I'm not familiar with either one.

Extending access to information?

I typed in the title Birds of the Smoky Mountains and there was nothing too preview. I was able to see where I could purchase this book and what library had it available but could not view it. :(

I typed in making digital postcards and the review was limited. They did however let me know where I could buy this great book.

Thing, 13

somethinh@somethingstore.com = a Del.icio.us bookmaking site

Here is an example of a tag : this site will sell you something. You'll find out what it is when you receive it. Now there's a clever idea. Almost as good as "you'll eat it and you'll like it" cause I said so... So if this website was one I liked to brows I'd tag it.

Thing 12

My digital camera is my aromatherapy... it goes every where with me.
So when I capture that awesome shot and I want instant gratification; I download the pictures to my computer at home and am able to do whatever I want with that photo. I have so many folders and each folder has a name for each type of picture, exp. baby birds, my back yard photos, grandchildren etc.etc.

While playing around with my pictures I usually have a book on CD that I'm listening to.

I use Google quit a bit when I need a quick answer to a question such as how to transplant lady slippers or how to transplant peonies. or to look up receipes.

I use photoshop when I want to play around with my pictures, there is so much to learn with digital photograpy that this hobby of mine can sometimes take hours just cropping and editing a picture of making a personal calendar for a friend .

An mp3 player would be a lovely incentive to have. Of course I'd have to use my toolbox helper Christine to help me download some music. She knows what I like and I usualy like the songs she listens to.

Thing : 10 & 11

Most of the books I've been reading have been on CD, so I'm listening more than reading.

I posted my goodreads so have a look see and tell me what you think.

Exploring Flickr: and mashup

This task could take all day and all night. There are so many cool things to look at. I'm like a kid in the candy store. I browsed through interestingness and liked the calendars and thought how neat, you can click on a picture and it opens and there are more pictures stacked under the initial one.

Viewing delivr site was very interesting: I like the idea of seeing digital photograpy as E - cards.

Looking at all this technology takes more time than I have, but I try to grasped as much as I can. I made a flickr account and I did add a tag with 2 photos so maybe I am getting the hang of this stuff after all. The really neat thing about flickr is that I can spend all day just playing around with my own pictures and having fun doing projects. I may one day even make my own book, or post cards to sell; the possibilities are endless.

Thing # 6

I do believe I understand this:

Looking for info on a search engine the site will feature a symbol click on it and behold you have another whole page of info to view. exp. Birds and bloom is a favorite of mine so I saved it to my computer and each time I wish to view it's contents behold there it is. As for other sites I have amazon.com books. I thought about the weirdest site or blog.. I dont have one I can site right now sorry. But if I typed in weirdphotos.com I'm sure I get a hit of something.

Thing # 5

Google Reader:

Did it with some help from my toolbox helper Christine: Yeah Christine! she's a team player.
Jeff helped out too. But it's not a site that I would of ever used or can see myself using in the future!!!.. I just don't have that much time here at work to curse the net and my time is usually spent working on projects related to "Circulation" duties. All this activity has been fun "sort of" and I am learning new and interesting tid -bits. Learning is power and power is........aaah yeah knowledge. "I have the power."!.
